right-up4About Child & Adolescent Psychologists

A psychologist is specially trained to assess, diagnosis and treat emotional and behavioral problems. Specialty trained child and adolescent psychologists have expertise in the development of children, adolescents, young adults, and the family system. Becoming a doctoral-level psychologist requires completion of 8-9 years of training. During graduate school training, psychologists undergo an average of 5 years of clinical experiences in various treatment settings while also receiving training in scientific research. After completing graduate school and earning a doctorate degree (PhD or PsyD), a child and adolescent psychologist will then undergo one additional year of intensive internship and likely another year of postdoctoral fellowship training in their area of specialty. Once psychologists have finished this sequence of training, they must pass the exam of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards and to obtain a license to practice. The psychologists at StrongMinds obtained their graduate and postgraduate training at top academic institutions across the country, including University of Virginia, St. John’s University, Vanderbilt University, Columbia University, Harvard University and Bellevue Hospital.

About Licensed Clinical Workers

The Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) at StrongMinds have extensive training and experience working with youth and families and have demonstrated knowledge and skill in using methods that have been empirically validated to improve well-being. Our social workers have earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work and are licensed by the state of KY to practice independently. Masters level programs are 2-3 years and involve several practica, or clinical placements in a community setting. An LCSW is a therapist who has completed additional training, 200 hours of supervision under a LCSW supervisor, and passed the LCSW examination. Social work is a very regulated and structured degree and health profession and is similar for each state nationally.

All StrongMinds providers are licensed to practice in the state of Kentucky.
